Dragonflies

Dragonflies are absolutely wondrous. As a certified Oregon Naturalist, Odonata is my biggest passion, followed by birds, herps, and native plants. My husband and I spend our summers looking for odonates across Oregon, striving to capture portrait photography of the species in our state. I am a member of the Dragonfly Society of the Americas and even give presentations on Oregon Odonata in my community to groups who wish to learn more about these amazing animals.

When I look at dragonflies, I don’t just see an insect. I see beauty, I see power, I see joy.

My Presentation

Oregon Odonata: The Dragonflies and Damselflies Around Us

I really enjoy sharing the wonder and science of dragonflies with groups in our community. I created a vibrant presentation where I provide an introduction on Odonata filled with portraits of Oregon species. For in-person events, I have a large tote full of fun things I set out for attendees to look through, including exuvia I’ve collected and handouts I’ve created. Our portrait photography really provides folks a close look at these extraordinary animals!

Portrait Photography

My husband and I spend our summers looking for odonates across Oregon, striving to take spectacular photos of all 90+ species in our state. Below is just a sampling and every photo was taken in Oregon by one of us during our adventures looking for odonates. So far, we are up to 33 species in our iNaturalist project!
